Modernization of Wind Forecasting Models & Cloud Migration
Iberdrola is facing a challenge in managing its energy forecasting infrastructure, which currently cannot handle the growing volume of meteorological and power generation data efficiently. This limitation affects both the accuracy of predictions and the ability to integrate new technologies and more advanced prediction models. In addition, the lack of scalability of the current system prevents the company from expanding its prediction capabilities to all its facilities, affecting the ability to optimize its resources and to extend the long-term prediction horizon, a key element for strategic planning.
The main objective of the project has been to migrate the prediction infrastructure to the AWS cloud. This migration allows Iberdrola to take advantage of a flexible and scalable platform, capable of managing large volumes of data more efficiently and reducing processing times. The adoption of cloud services facilitates the automation of key processes and the implementation of advanced artificial intelligence models, significantly improving the accuracy and capacity of predictions. In addition, this new infrastructure provides the necessary flexibility to integrate future technological innovations and adapt to growing business demands, both in terms of data and predictions.
Migrating to AWS provides Iberdrola with several benefits. First, it improves scalability, allowing for increased processing and storage capacity as business needs grow. Second, it optimizes operating costs, since the cloud allows you to pay only for the resources used, eliminating the need to maintain oversized physical infrastructure.
